It’s safe to say that Jorja Smith should be on everybody’s playlist by now, the music that the British R&B singer has been crafting since her start in 2015 has made everybody turn their heads. Jorja Smith’s career has been on an international rise with her soft soulful, nostalgic, melodic style shown so effortlessly which has lead her to be compared to music icon Amy Winehouse, Lauryn Hill, or Rihanna.
The bees started buzzing and the blogs started taking notes once she released her single “Where Did I Go?”, the track has a beautiful melody and Jorja Smith shows incredible display of how much emotion she can place in a single, the track was well produced by upcoming producer Cadenza. Her Dizzee Rascal sampled single “Blue Lights” was a single that was released on iTunes in 2016, highlighting the stereotypes inherent criminality cling African Americans face from childhood to adulthood, the song was a hit and was even nominated for MOBO song of the year in 2016. The end of 2016 Jorja released her highly anticipated body of work called “Project 11”, the 5 track EP solidified Jorja Smith and all the hype was not for the birds. “Project 11” shows Jorja Smith is a powerful force with her writing skills to her vocals to her beat selection, Songs like “Carry Me Home”, “So Lonely” really stood out on the EP.
Jorja Smith has the potential and it undeniable, At this point Labels are swarming in after every show, phone calls are coming in from every zipcode, and advice is being offered from everybody. With her high demand on radio and music streaming stats, she has caught the attention of heer peers and celebrities everywhere. Rapper Drake being familiar to the R&B side was even sold on the British singer, Jorja Smith appeared on Drake’s project “More Life” twice and arguably she stood out as the most impactful features outside of the Hip Hop project, Jorja has also featured on popular singer Kali Uchis successful single “Tyrant”.
Jorja is still feeding her fanbase with recently debuting a new single during the HBO original series “Insecure” titled “Fine Line”, and arguably releasing a summer banger with UK artist Preditah called “On My Mind”. “On My Mind” visual has nostalgic vibe, the house party visual was so uplifting and just made me want to hang out with my friends the way everybody was dancing around in the video. Jorja Smith is around the world appearing in many shows with Drake while he tours and promote his “More Life” project. Jorja Smith is an incredible artist with her taste in music to her melodic voice, her songwritting abilites can put her in conversation with the icons, the fact she has nothing but time on her side is what makes her so intimidating in the music industry. Jorja Smith is executing a blueprint, with 2017 coming to and end I think it’s safe to say Jorja may be getting things together to take over 2018 and not even herself can stop this from happening.
